Trip to United Kingdom - May 16 - 28, 2002
In May of 2002, I had the opportunity to take my first trip outside
the country, visiting friends in London and Northern Ireland. There were so
many amazing things to see that I went a little nuts with my camera and took
over 300 pictures. Obviously not all are interesting enough to put up here, but
there are quite a few that I like. I am going to write a travelogue of sorts to
explain some of the photos, but for now here are the raw images.
People All the
people that made my trip so fun (and some of me as well).
London
Belfast
Strangford Lough
Strangford Lough (pronounced like the Loch in Loch Ness) is a beautiful lake
southeast of Belfast. It is one of Ireland's most important wetlands/natural
areas and is surrounded by historic sites, including the Nendrum Monastic site
and St. Patrick's grave and cathedral.
Castle Rock This
is a small little "getaway" town on the north coast of Ireland. We were here a
couple days doing a lot of relaxing, reading and walking. For more information
on this area, looking up "Mussenden Temple castlerock" in
Google is a good place to start.
Northern Coast
We took the long scenic route back from Castlerock wrapping around the north
coast of Ireland. The weather was horrid (really the only day weather truly
interferred with our plans), but we still saw some great stuff. Dunluce Castle
is along here, as well as Giant's Causeway. You can take roads along the coast
the whole way until you wrap around east of Belfast. Lots of farmland, little
villages and churches.
